FAQ

Why Coconut Apricot wax?

  • Coconut apricot wax is considered a luxury wax since it delivers great hot throw (how strong the scent is when a candle is lit) and smooth candle tops after each burn. We chose coconut apricot instead of soy after finding soy to be a bit tougher in regard to great scent throw, smooth tops, and soot. Not to mention coco apricot is gluten free, paraben free, and phthalate free.

Are your fragrances safe?

  • We researched a lot about candle making and fragrances during the creation of our brand. We learned about phthalates, mutagens, carcinogens, and what creates a "toxic" candle. All our fragrances are mutagen, phthalate, and carcinogen free! While we don't believe in calling ourselves "non-toxic" because that's just greenwashing; we do believe in transparency and choosing high quality ingredients to the best of our ability.

What are mutagens, phthalates, and carcinogens?

  • Carcinogens = materials known or thought to cause cancer.
  • Mutagens = materials that change the DNA of a cell, harming the cell and causing diseases like cancer.
  • Phthalates = a series of widely used chemicals that can be endocrine disruptors and are detrimental to human health.

What about essential oils?

  • Our fragrance oils do contain miniscule amounts of essential oils. However, we currently do not offer candles or home fragrances with only essential oils for a few reasons. While essential oils are wonderful in many ways; we chose safe synthetic fragrances because they are meant for combustion and work better to provide a sensory experience specifically in candle making. Essential oils are very volatile, not meant for combustion, and some can be toxic not only to us, but to our furry friends as well. It's important to remember just because it's from nature, doesn't mean it's good for you.

What do I do if my candle tunnels?

  • Candles can tunnel for a number of reasons. This is why allowing for a full melt pool upon the firm burn is so important. Oftentimes, the first burn indicates how well the candle will burn throughout its life. To fix this, it's quite simple! Take some tin foil and wrap it tight around the glass. Allow a smaller diameter for the flame at the top of your tin wrapping. This creates more heat, where any wax hang-ups will melt down. With success, your candle's surface will be even again.

How does culture and travel play into your fragrances?

  • Some of our scents take inspiration from South Asian culture and geography. Others take influence from Latino and American cultures; because we're American too! This space is to celebrate cultures, nationalities, travel, and life's simple pleasures through the power of scent. You'll notice behind each product, there's a story of our "why." We also have serious wanderlust and dedicate certain scents to places we've traveled or aspire to travel.

What's the intention behind the Bible quotation?

  • You may or may not have noticed a Bible quotation on the bottom of our candles. We are not a religious business, nor do we proselytize. Rather, our belief is that at their core, all spiritualities and religions have the principles of kindness and love. To give and receive love, is all there is. Regardless of belief system, we hope you agree. You matter, and you are so loved.
